My Family Divided

This book follows the heart-breaking story of fourteen-year-old Diane Guerrero losing her parents to an ICE raid. ICE is the branch of the government that detains and deports undocumented people. Diane’s parents lived in the US for years, and Diane was born in the US.

Life has a Face

The lady who the books is about is an absolute inspiration! She is courageous, joyful and amazing. She is involved with a unique ministry who serve underprivileged people.  So while, I did not enjoy the book; she still is an amazing woman.

Making Things Move

Okay, yes, my nerd side is showing through with this book recommendation. However, nerdy this book review may sound; please be assured I understood very little from this book. This book recommendation came from my very tech savvy brother who creates thing in CAD and reverse engineers things on a daily basis. I do know that this book will teach you how to do amazing things.

Paperboy

Walk through life with Victor Vollmer III. He’s a boy who hates commas. In his honor you won’t find any in this review either… He loves words. But he has a stutter. It’s hard for him to communicate all the words that he wants to communicate. One day his father brought home a typewriter. Now he has an outlet. He loves to type. Now he can communicate his thoughts this way. The book is written as his summer journal.

A Bottle in the Gaza Sea

I’ve never read a book that so eloquently showcases an Israeli and Arab friendship. This book is the story of how an Israeli girl put a letter in a bottle and asks her brother to throw it in the Gaza Sea. She hopes that an Arab from Gaza will pick up the bottle and contact her.

Room in the Heart

The author of "Room in the Heart" lived through her family's escape from Nazi controlled territory. As a result, she writes with a voice of experience and understanding.

Silver Days - by Sonia Levitin

"Silver Days" is the sequel to "Journey to America." While the first book was clean and at a child's level, the author really shifted her focus with this one. This book talks about hard things. It also talks a lot about boy/girl relationships.

Walking Miracle

Art Sanborn and his family knew they were called to the mission field. However, it took years for them to discover which organization God desired them to serve with. Once they found the right place, they dove into a lifetime of work for God, specifically in Asia.

A Way Beyond Death - by Jemimah Wright

Cultural differences are often quite overwhelming. However, when God is at work, He can take them and turn them into tools that accomplish great things for His purposes. Marcia is Brazilian. Suzuki is Japanese. Together they work among primitive Indian tribes located deep in the Brazilian jungles.

A Cry from the Streets

Johan and Jeannette Lukasse followed the call of the Lord to Brazil to work with street children. When they arrived, their work began in a tiny apartment off the side of a small orphanage. There are now more than thirteen ministries utilizing more than one hundred YWAM workers.

Against All Odds - Jim Stier

"Against All Odds" tells of the beginning of YWAM's work in Brazil. Jim and Pam experience much hardship and poor living conditions as they work to establish a brand new ministry. Despite the challenges, and despite the fact that they are repeatedly told that Brazilian people will not go out as missionaries, they persevere.

Dream Freedom - by Sonia Levitin

In the book "Dream Freedom," Sonia Levitin artfully portrays the struggle of slavery in Sudan. The story reads like poetry, evoking deep emotion as the reader is drawn into the pain of humans ripped away from their families and forced into slavery as animals.

Beyond Dark Hills - by Jesse Stuart

Jesse Stuart is known as a wonderful teacher and author. His children's books are exceptionally well written and clean. Therefore, I was excited to read his autobiography. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed. Some of my disappointment came from the sinful culture of backwoods Kentucky.
