Now, the reason that I say its outstanding is because I have never seen a book that approaching the subject of slavery like this one does.

Lillie's great-grandparents were slaves. Her grandparents were sharecroppers. Her parents moved north to find jobs away from sharecropping. Lillie herself found work in a white world, enrolled her children in a white school, and saw her son as the first black valedictorian in that white school.

Amish Frontier Series

The goal of the Amish Frontier Series is to present to the reader the very real challenges faced by the Amish throughout history as they tried to remain faithful to their beliefs. In order to do that, the author follows a fictional family through many actual Amish settlements, having them move very, very often. Because of the frequent moves, the stories do not feel totally realistic. However, they do give a clear picture of the struggles faced by the Amish in each location.

Molly - An American Girl

Molly grows up in World War II era America. Her father is a doctor in England, caring for injured soldiers. Her mother works for the Red Cross. Molly spends her time trying to figure out what normal life is during war time. All of these books are very patriotic and very well written to paint a picture for children of what life was like back then.

A Single Page

"A Single Page" is historical fiction based on the work of the Ephrata Cloister to print the "Martyrs Mirror." The characters are true to life with details added to bring the story to life. This book portrays not only life in this historical time period, but also the struggle of a young boy to love an unfriendly neighbor.
