Title: I Survived: The Battle of D-Day, 1944

Author: Lauren Tarshis

7&8th

This book follows a French boy named Paul who lives near Normandy beach. At the beginning of the war, Paul’s father went to serve in the army. During the next few years, Paul sees some pretty awful things, wonders why his Jewish friend disappeared, and endures the German occupation. Then as Paul walks home he finds an Allied paratrooper in the tree. He decides to help the paratrooper and is drawn into the French Resistance. Can Paul help the paratrooper and ultimately his country?

Just a warning, this is a historical book written about a historical war. For that reason, the book does talk about violence and death due to the subject matter. It is well-written and not excessively violent. I did raise the grade level due to the content.
