Clouds of War follows the story of the famous book, The Martyrs Mirror. A few men that lived at the Ephrata Cloister had painstakingly translated The Martyrs Mirror from Dutch into German, a language that was more commonly used. After translating the book, they had produced the paper and ink needed to print them. Next they constructed a printing press and printed the books. Many people were blessed by this publication, but not as many people as what the people at the Ephrata Cloister thought. One night soldiers from the American army came to confiscate paper. They needed paper for their rifles. They took all the Cloister paper as well as the copies of The Martyrs Mirror. This story helps us remember the work that the men did in printing The Martyr’s Mirror. It also reminds us to remain nonresistant if our precious possessions are taken.
