"Countdown: A Time of Testing" is the first in a series titled "Century in Crisis." It addresses the challenges faced by the Early Church in and around AD 284, during the time of Diocletian. The book contains much history, some of which are familiar and some of which are less well known.
Since I live in Pennsylvania, I found this book fascinating as well as a good resource for teaching my students Pennsylvania’s history. This book highlights the life of William Penn. William Penn’s father was a rich successful man in England.
Born to Die is a book that was written about the Anabaptist movement in Switzerland in the 1520s. This book features eighteen-year old Annabelle Friesen. The Anabaptist faith is sweeping through her village, it’s affecting her close friends, her boyfriend and her own family.
Clouds of War follows the story of the famous book, The Martyrs Mirror. A few men that lived at the Ephrata Cloister had painstakingly translated The Martyrs Mirror from Dutch into German, a language that was more commonly used.
In the early 1900’s a Mennonite Church in Lancaster County asked Amanda Musselman and her friend Mary Denlinger to move to the nearby city of Philadelphia. Philadelphia had parts of the city where the many people in need lived.
Irenaeus was an early church father who focused particularly on clarifying the beliefs of the church in order to counteract the influence of the Gnostics. Little is known of his background besides the fact that he studied under Polycarp and wrote theologically.
