Irenaeus was an early church father who focused particularly on clarifying the beliefs of the church in order to counteract the influence of the Gnostics. Little is known of his background besides the fact that he studied under Polycarp and wrote theologically. Therefore, it was a distinct challenge for the author to turn his story into a complete book. This is a picture book, yet is separated into chapters. Stated to be written for ages 7-12, it is written in a somewhat dry "history book" fashion. Young children will find it difficult to read. The reading level is fourth grade and up, but the theology may be beyond even that level.
