Freedom Over Me

               There are a plethora of books on the sad subject of slavery. Some are remarkable. Others are just good. Some are outstanding. This an outstanding book! Now, the reason that I say its outstanding is because I have never seen a book that approaching the subject of slavery like this one does.

Prejudice and Pardon - by Laura Smucker

Lillie's great-grandparents were slaves. Her grandparents were sharecroppers. Her parents moved north to find jobs away from sharecropping. Lillie herself found work in a white world, enrolled her children in a white school, and saw her son as the first black valedictorian in that white school.

Dream Freedom - by Sonia Levitin

In the book "Dream Freedom," Sonia Levitin artfully portrays the struggle of slavery in Sudan. The story reads like poetry, evoking deep emotion as the reader is drawn into the pain of humans ripped away from their families and forced into slavery as animals.

I Survived Series

This is another series that was begged and begged for by the children at our school. So far, I’ve enjoyed the books as a whole. The author does a fantastic job of immersing herself in the story.
