While well written, "Amina's Voice" was disappointing. It appears that the author had several goals in writing this story: to promote Islam, to encourage the welcoming of Muslim people as neighbors, and to show what life is like in middle school. As a Christian, I disagree with Muslim beliefs and therefore was uncomfortable with the promotion of Islam. I wholeheartedly support her second goal of making people from different cultures welcome. The middle school life that was portrayed was from a public school culture and not particularly appropriate, especially as pertains to boy/girl relationships. This book is not approved.
