Title: I am Malala: How One Girl Stood Up for Education and Changed the World (Young Reader Edition)
Author: Malala Yousafzai with Patricia McCormick
Grade Level: 7&8th
Many of us have heard of Malala and her incredible sacrifice that she made for education. If you just so happen to live under a delightful rock, here is a quick synopsis of the book. Malala lived in Pakistan during her childhood. Her Dad taught and administrated a local school which educated girls. Soon, the Taliban invade their area of Pakistan and banned women and girls from attending school. Malala and a few of her friends bravely continued to go to school. One day on her way to school, Malala was shot at point blank range. This is the story of her courageous fight for her own education and for the education of all girls and women.
After reading this book, I felt so small because I have not needed to make huge sacrifices, but I also felt so big because this book called me to make huge sacrifices for causes that I am passionate about. Those feelings are exactly what makes this book a must-read. It convicts you and makes you want to be a better person.Just a small note, Malala professes faith in the Muslim faith, but the book does not seek to convert only simply to inform. Must read! I always recommend this book to everyone I know.
