Author: Gary Soto

For those of you poor souls who have never tasted tamales, they kinda taste like a wetter cornbread with meat in the middle and wrapped in corn husks. Seriously, if you have never had the privilege of putting a tamale in your mouth, you need to remedy that immediately. Your taste buds will thank you! In this story, Maria helps her mother and father make tamales for their Christmas dinner. While Maria kneads the tamale dough, she sees her Mom’s ring lying on the counter. Maria loves to look at her mother’s ring, so she puts the ring on her finger and keeps kneading the dough. Soon her cousins come and they decide to play together until Maria remembers her Mother’s ring which she can’t find anywhere. Can the cousins find the ring?
