American soldiers force Dustu and his family to leave their home and travel thousands of miles to a new home. Why? Simply because they are Cherokee and live in Georgia in 1830. In 1830, President Andrew Jackson enacted the Indian Removal Act of 1830. This meant that all Native American people, specifically the Cherokee, were forced to move to Indian Territory which is Oklahoma today. This mass emigration is called the Trail of Tears. Can the whole family make this journey safely and find a new home?
