The Rhino in Right Field
Title: The Rhino in Right Field
Author: Stacy Dekeyser
Grade Level: 5&6th
Nicky lives in New York City and loves baseball. His hard-working parents moved to New York City from Greece to provide a better life for their children. Usually, on Saturdays, Nicky helps his father in his shoe store. Nicky dislikes working on Saturday, instead, he would rather play baseball with is his friends even if he has to play right outfielder. They play baseball in a zoo. If the batter hits a long ball into the right field, it goes over the fence and into the pen of very grouchy rhino, Tank.
This book would interest boys in the fifth and six-grade segment, which is probably the hardest quadrant to fill in our conservative libraries. However, I didn’t put this book in our library for two reasons: There was a lot of deception through the book and some salacious comments about girls in short skirts. Sadly, a few lines taken out would have made this book a wonderful addition to a school library.
