    This story is about a little girl named Sarah. Sarah is deaf, so she can’t hear many sounds. Her parents and siblings talk with their hands. They are using a language called American Sign Language. It’s Sarah’s birthday, and now she is six. For her birthday gift, her parents give Sarah a kitten. Sarah can’t hear the kitten purr, but she can feel him purr! Being six means that it’s time for Sarah to go to school. Sarah isn’t sure about going to school. Her parents have found her a special teacher that knows sign language. Can Sarah’s new kitty help her overcome her fear of school? 

    My students enjoy learning sign language, so I was happy to find this book about a child who uses Sign Language! This is a sweet book that will hopefully inspire more children to learn Sign Language.
