This book is well researched and well written. It paints a clear picture of life in a Lakota tribe. As can be expected, it is full of Native American beliefs. There is a lot of belief in the power of nature, mystery, and special spirit magic. The main character, Takini, is constantly being helped by wild animals and doing very far fetched things with "special powers." It is difficult to know if this book is okay for children to read. Probably it would be fine if they could discuss it with someone, but maybe it should not be put in the library.
